Scholarship for nursing student?
I am a freshman at the University of Portland and am planning to major in nursing and minor in Biology. I received at least an A- in all of my classes this term. I’m married and have a one year old son. Are there any scholarships available to me?

Hello!
Congrats on your awesome grades! Have you checked your college to see what scholarships are available? This is the first thing I would do. Next, I would do something that takes a bit of time at sign-up, but then you just pick and choose (basically just how bad you desire scholarships). FAST WEB is a website where you fill out a profile, that in turn selects (according to your profile) the scholarships that may be available to you. It is way cool! Time consuming, yes especially to start. But worth it! Be totally honest when you fill out the profile to get the best possible matches for college funds (scholarships) available for your situation. Good Luck!!

I know you are asking about a scholarship, but you might also consider a Federal Perkins Loan. When I was still in school, if you completed your nursing degree and obtained a job in nursing, the government forgave 100% of your loan. Of course, it didn’t happen all at once. Each year, so much of it is forgiven and you have to show documentation. Because these loans can be forgiven, competition is thought and awards are based on household income. Of course, you might want to talk to your school and see how these loans work now.
Also, many times departments have scholarship that you have to apply for. The scholarships are usually awarded at the end of year to be used for the next year.
